There is a kind of grief that never fully leaves you.
The loss of a child—whether they were just beginning their journey in life, or had walked alongside you for decades—leaves a void that nothing can fully prepare you for. No book, no well-meaning word from a friend, no passage of time quite reaches that hollow place.
So many bereaved parents carry this profound weight quietly—wondering if what they feel is normal, or if anyone truly understands. Perhaps you have heard yourself say, “I should be coping better by now.” Perhaps you have stayed silent at family gatherings because the grief feels too big, too raw, or simply too misunderstood.
If that is you, please know: you do not have to walk this path entirely alone.
The Grief That Defies a Timeline
Our culture often treats grief as something with a beginning, a middle, and an end. We are quietly expected to “get back to normal” within weeks or months. But the grief of losing a child does not follow that script.
Whether your child was lost through miscarriage, stillbirth, illness, accident, or the quiet passing of an adult son or daughter—the love you carry for them is unchanged by time. And that love, when it has nowhere left to go, can settle in the body as heaviness, anxiety, sleeplessness, or a constant low ache that others may not even notice.
This is not weakness. This is love in its most enduring form.
What Grief Support in Thurso Looks Like
Every Monday, I host face-to-face therapy sessions at Thurso Citizens Advice Bureau—a confidential, quiet space in the heart of Caithness where you can simply arrive as you are. No performance, no pressure to be further along than you are.
In these sessions, we may draw on a range of approaches:
- Hypnotherapy: Gentle guided work to access the subconscious and release patterns of grief, fear, or stuck emotion that talk therapy cannot always reach.
- Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT®): A powerful evidence-informed approach that helps reframe the stories we tell ourselves about our loss—shifting from silent suffering toward self-compassion.
- EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique): A somatic practice that works with the body’s energy system to gently release what grief has deposited—tension in the chest, the tightness in the throat, the weight behind the eyes.
- Breathwork: Simple, accessible techniques you can use in session and at home, helping to regulate the nervous system when grief surges unexpectedly.
This is not about “moving on.” It is about learning to move forward with your grief—gently, at your own pace, and with deep self-compassion.
✨ Free 30-Minute Initial Consultation
If you are unsure where to begin, you are welcome to book a private, no-obligation consultation to talk through what you are experiencing and explore how we might work together. There is no commitment required—only an open conversation.
About Gwen
I am Gwen Gould—a certified hypnotherapist (C.Hyp), RTT® Practitioner, and EFT Specialist based in Thurso, Caithness. I spent 35 years as an NHS midwife and nurse, and that experience shaped the way I work: with steadiness, with presence, and with deep respect for what the body and the heart carry.
I created the GRIEF Method™ and the Emotional Detective Method™ as therapeutic frameworks specifically designed to support people through the particular terrain of grief—especially losses that others may not fully see or understand.
I also volunteer with Cancer Support Thurso, and I understand the weight carried by families across our Highland communities.
Free Guide: ‘When Love Has No End’
I also recorded a short message for bereaved parents who may be carrying this quietly.
"A message from my heart to yours"
I have created a free guide especially for bereaved parents. When Love Has No End offers gentle, compassionate guidance on navigating parental grief—including what grief actually does in the body, why it does not run on a calendar, and how you can begin to give that deep love a safe place to rest.
